An investigation of TiB2 synthesis using TiO2/B 4C/C powder mixture

Abstract

This paper presents a synthesis of TiB2 via carbothermal reduction method using a mixture of TiO2, B4C and C prepared in molar ratio of 2:1:3. Reduction experiments were carried out in a high temperature graphite furnace in a graphite crucible under argon atmosphere at different time (0, 15, 30 and 60 min.) and temperatures (1400, 1500 and 1600°C). The products obtained were investigated using XRD technique.
