An investigation of the learning styles of the students of the department of physical education and sports teacher

Abstract

Purpose of this study is to identify different learning styles of the students of Karadeniz Technical University, School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teacher. This study enquires into the possible implications of the learning styles of the students in terms of different variables (gender, year, branch of the sports studied). The study has been done in screening model. Population of the study consists of 227 students studying at Karadeniz Technical University, School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teacher, during 2011-2012, autumn term. The study was intended to be done on 227 students, however it could be done on 153 students since some of the students didn't want to take the questionnaire and some others were absent. Data were collected through "Kolb Learning Style Inventory" that was developed by Kolb (1985) and translated into Turkish by Askar and Akkoyunlu (1993). Research data were analyzed through frequency, percentage and Chi-square Test techniques. Level of significance was obtained as 0.05. Findings of the research has showed that considerable number of the students are diverger and assimilator and students' learning styles do not vary in terms of their gender, course levels and sport branches.
