Abstract
Generative design systems provide innovative solutions for improving energy efficiency in buildings by enabling advanced automation and optimization tools. However, limitations in BIM-BEM simulation tools restrict the advancement of BIM-based generative design. This study proposes a simulation framework that automates EnergyPlus simulations in Revit environment using Dynamo and Python scripts to optimize building envelope performance. An office building was used as a case study, with simulations conducted using 10 generation, 20 population size, and 1 seed value. The process, completed in 150 minutes, generated 344 alternatives, 61 of which were valid. Considering thermal comfort, 8 optimal alternatives were identified.
