Abstract

Early detection of leaks in tanks is essential to avoid excessive economical loss and reducing the environmental and health. To detect vapor leaks in the soil, EPA requires "using porous soils in the backfill and locating the monitoring devices in these porous soils near the underground storage tank. To determine the leaks in tanks, the differences of successive measurements of the mass of petroleum products are compared. An approach is proposed for detection of loss of petroleum products due to leaks and evaporation in tanks. The proposed approach to detecting leakage of oil products makes it possible to substantiate the decision concerning the state of a tank under condition of actual operation.
