Abstract

Adsorption of phenolic compound Bisphenol A by pristine and purified MWCNTs has been studied systematically. The aim of this study was to reveal the adsorption behavior of Bisphenol A compound on MWCNTs and determine adsorption efficiency of the MWCNTs prepared in our laboratories. MWCNTs are prepared by using chemical vapour deposition (CVD) of acetylene in argon flow on a magnesium oxide (MgO) powder impregnated with an iron nitrate (Fe(NO 3) 3 9H 2O) solution. Pristine MWCNTs are purified by liquid phase oxidation method. Adsorption behavior of Bisphenol A was studied by varying parameters such as agitation time, pH, and temperature. It was observed that adsorption was dependent some parameters examined and impurities that MWCNTs contain interfere the adsorption mechanism. Purification of MWCNTs enhanced the adsorption capacity dramatically. The results represent that MWCNTs have great potential for removal of Bisphenol A from aqueous solutions.
