Abstract

Estimating performance of reactive silencers is an essential first step in designing mufflers. One of the most widely adopted technique for this evaluation is using the Transfer Matrix Method due to its simple appliance of calculating a complex muffler's performance composed of simple sub elements. Hence, to build or estimate the performance of a complex muffler, transfer matrices of various sub elements should be evaluated. In this study, the transfer matrix of 'Cross Flow - Extended Closed End Muffler' element has been evaluated using one dimensional, incompressible, adiabatic flow approach; "Transmission Loss' of the element was calculated throughout a frequency spectrum and the result of this study was compared with the results obtained from SIDLAB®.
