Abstract

The electrical transient phenomena in power systems, particularly for the switching of a 380 kV unloaded line was presented. The instantaneous values of the overvoltages, overcurrents and electric fields were studied during the first cycles after the switching of the unload line. The line was simulated using EMTDC/PSCAD and MATHCAD simulation tools. The effects of transients and line length on the simulation results were analyzed.
