N2 - In this paper, a swarm optimization based optimal proportional-plus- integral (PI) controller is designed for load frequency control (LFC) of a two area thermal power system with governor dead-band. The design is determined an optimization problem and a novel cost function is derived for increasing the performance of convergence to the solution. To optimize the parameters of the cost functions and the PI-controller, the craziness based particle swarm optimization (CRAZYPSO) algorithm is used. The results show that the proposed control method is provided better performance for dynamic responses of the power system.
