Abstract

A simple and sensitive analytical method was developed for the spectrophotometric assay of amiloride hydrochloride (AH) in pure forms and tablets is described. The method is based on the formation of an ion-pair complex between the drug and bromophenol blue(BPB). The reaction proceeds quantitatively at pH 3,2 and room temperature in 10 min. After the extraction of the ion-pair complex with chloroform, the absorbance was measured at 417 nm. The method was applied to commercially available tablets and the results were statistically compared with those obtained by 2nd derivative UV spectrophotometric method, using t- and F-tests.
