Abstract

This study provides a simple guide for small and medium-sized textile manufacturers based on product carbon foot print without using any professional application. Due to scopes of the EU Emission Trading system (ETS) and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), only Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were considered in the plants where the pilot study was conducted for this project. The appropriate method for calculating and assessing the carbon foot print is the Tier approach established by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Project was taken as a gate-to-gate approach. With a pilot study about textile manufacturing chain; all stage of data collections, logical calculations, reliable assumptions and converting of result as greenhouse gas emission were given. The textile processes can be listed as: production of fibres and yarn, production of fabric, treatment of fabric (e.g. bleaching, dyeing), production of garments, packaging of garments, transportation of materials and goods between different location (between tiers or from tier to retailers). In this project system boundary of selected goods production line were given as below for Factory A-Confection A, Factory B-Confection A. Pretreatment and dying processes and Confection processes of cotton black, cotton white, polyester black and polyester white t-shirts were exceled 120.94 kg CO2-eq/garment, 31.88 kg CO2-eq/garment, 83.72 kg CO2–eq/garment, 44.90 kg CO2–eq/garment respectively.
