Abstract
In this paper, the current practice for the assessment of aerobic endogenous decay rate has been critically evaluated and a new method has been proposed for the experimental determination of heterotrophic endogenous respiration rate under aerobic and anoxic conditions. The suggested method is tested on activated sludge samples grown on domestic sewage yielding b(H) values markedly lower than the reported results. Further experimental data are needed to support the results of this study.
