Abstract

Hexadeca-substituted metal-free and zinc(II) phthalocyanines carrying alkoxy substituents on non-peripheral(α) and 4-(dimethylamino)phenyl-ethynyl groups on peripheral(β) positions have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The complexes show Q band beyond 800 nm. Zinc phthalocyanine forms an intermolecular zinc-nitrogen coordination and self assembles to a chain-like coordination polymer and the coordination chains stack together in an elongated honeycomb-like fashion in the crystal lattice.
