Abstract

Global natural gas consumption is increasing with pace. Exploration activities are directed towards deeper waters to meet the demand. More than half of the major oil and gas discoveries were made in deep waters. In 2020, Turkish Petroleum Corporation has made a gas discovery in the Black Sea that is the largest find in country’s history. Sakarya gas field is located in ultra-deep waters and there is a limited amount of field found in ultra-deep waters in the world. In this study, a summary and development technologies of ultra-deep gas fields in the world are given. In addition, common problems encountered in these fields and solution techniques employed are presented. Considering these examples with limited data available on the Sakarya field, development options and possible problems are discussed.
